Quilt Tales:
Stories Through Fabric

10/7/22–01/14/23

We decided to create this exhibit, in part, after seeing how meaningful our permanent display of Solveig Wells’ Katrina Quilt Series was to our visitors. Her devotion to this craft and the powerful story of her quilts led us to wonder about other stories that may be contained in other quilts and textile-based pieces. What do these creations, so imbued with love and hard-work, mean to us? What is their significance to our lives and to our histories? These are the questions we invite you to join us in exploring through this WGZM-curated exhibit.

Quilt Tales: Stories Through Fabric was an exciting and informative multi-dimensional exhibit. We brought together quilts, from residents all across Hancock County, to share their beauty and their amazing stories and histories with all of you. Together, we explored the meaning that these quilts–and other creative textiles–bring to our lives, communities, and histories through their unique creation, stories, and legacies.

As an additional part of Quilt Tales, we partnered with The Arts, Hancock County to host a Fiber Fest. The Fiber Fest was Saturday–November 19, 2022, from 10am–4pm, on Waveland’s Town Green. There were wonderful demonstrations that took place and The Arts sold all kind of fiber arts, fabric, and wool.

During the run of the exhibit, we also had a Quilt Trail throughout Hancock County, inspired by the many barn quilt trails throughout the U.S. Find more info on this below.
